Merry Christmas!

Christmas this year is unlike any other I have experienced. Although I have “missed” the holidays a couple of times with my immediate family in the past, this Christmas I will be a world away in a tropical, sunny, country club environment surrounded by a marina and golf course. Which seems strange. The average high temperature is in the mid 80’s. The majority of the strung Christmas lights are on boats, and down here in southwest Florida, boat parades keep pace with Christmas parties.

I noticed some palm trees have some red berry-looking flora on them, which is very festive. Golf carts, which outnumber cars, are decorated with Christmas decorations. Christmas trees sparkle from the condominiums and homes that surround Burnt Store Marina.

And we have been busy. It seems that most of the people that live in the community of Burnt Store Marina either moved down here full or part time from somewhere else up north, and their families are either here for a few days or not at all.   We have had many opportunities to spend time with the boating community, including an open house at the yacht club and many casual dinners and parties. We have several invitations for Christmas dinner.

Do I miss Dallas during the holidays? I can’t say I miss the weather, or the hustle and bustle of being in high gear for the last few weeks. But I miss my awesome friends and family quite a bit.   So here’s a toast to my friends and family, have a wonderful holiday and a spirited new year!

Merry Christmas! Our Christmas was different this year too. We skipped all the decorations and stressing over making everything ‘right’. After work on Christmas Eve, I had a change of heart and decided to get Karin a present even though we’d all agreed not to. I slipped into a virtually empty parking lot at the mall, pulled into a front row space, went in to Macy’s only to hear the announcement that the store was now closing. I picked out a necklace and got back in my car. Christmas shopping this year….13 minutes tops!! Here’s to new traditions!
